Sklar Brothers Discuss Back On Topps

While listening to the Sklar Brothers fill in for Jim Rome on his radio show on the return trip from the Football Hall of Fame today, I learned of a new Internet mini-series called Back On Topps.

The series has no announced launch date (guesstimated to be mid- to late July), but the Sklar's have released a basic summary. The 25 episode series will follow the lives of twin brothers Leif and Leyland Topps, the fictional heirs to the Topps gum company. When Uncle Marvin Topps decided at the last minute to bail on his sons and sell the company to Michael Eisner, things get ugly for the Topps brothers.

Eisner hires a corporate manager who does not see eye to eye with the brothers which prompts a documentary following the brothers' everyday lives. Eisner views the idea as free publicity for the company while the corporate manager is planning to show the brothers messing up the card production process.

Throughout the series, many former athletes and other celebrities will be making cameo appearances some of which include Dennis Rodman, Johnny Damon and Julio Franco.

The Sklar's also think that this has the chance to become and actual TV series. However, I don't see this happening at the moment. The Sklar's list the series as comedy, but how much funny stuff can they think up about the company that a lot of collectors love to hate nowadays? The Office was also mentioned in an interview with the Sklar brothers, but I don't see how this could possibly top the popularity of that show.

You can expect to hear more about this series from me once it comes out.
